I was asked to coach a marketing executive at a global technology firm.  He reported to the Head of Marketing who in turn reported to the CEO.  The client was relatively young and very ambitious.  His issue was that he showed little respect for his peers and even his boss in meetings especially. In his desire to get ahead he would bulldoze the conversation and not show much respect for others’ opinions.

The data I gathered on him made him realize that he would not advance if he carried on with his current behavior.  I focused on getting him to step back and by doing this he developed a gravitas and power that had not existed before.  He was amazed to find that by letting go of his controlling behaviors and pushiness he had people coming to him for advice, offering him new opportunities and being happy to collaborate and sing his praises.
